Best safety tip: Extra spotting. I think that when your team is new at stunting or just trying a new stunt for the first time that extra spotting is key. I like to use the 4 corner spotting technique. As they get better (and safer) we start to take away spots.

How do you motivate your team: We always try to have a team talk. If we can’t then the cheerleaders make their concerns clear to captains and we can go from there. Usually when we have a team talk we eliminate the word “can’t” from our vocabulary. Generally we try not to use the word “can’t” in practice either.

How  do you resolve conflict: I talk to them one by one. Then we can identify the problem and who’s involved. Once we do that we can go from there.

Advice for new coaches: You really need to follow your own rules. Make them clear, set your rules, and do not hesitate to enforce them.

Most googled cheer info: What’s trending in cheer, stunts, and dance. I like to get new cheers, stunt ideas, and what teams are doing for dance. It helps me to get ideas and find out what the team will like. I try to present the team with the information and we can decide what works for us together.
