Oxford Area High School- Courtney Grier Cheerleading Coaching Interview

High School: Oxford Area High School

Coach: Courtney Grier

Mascot: Hornets

School Colors: Maroon and White

Years of Coaching Experience: 17 Years

Teams: Varsity

How do you show/ promote school spirit? Pep rally’s, different school events, we do a breast cancer fundraiser. We do a lot of volunteering at our lower school. We hold cheer clinics and camps at the elementary schools. We run homecoming and we do all the community parades.

Advice to new coaches: Stay organized. Try to get your team involved in as many things as you can. Talk with your parents and make sure that they stay involved too.

Safety tips: Use mats. We have professional cheer matsin our school gym No stunting allowed on the track or gym floor. We make stunt groups at the begining of the season and we don’t change them around. That way they learn to work with each other and they know their group really well.

How do you motivate your team: We take a break, we sit down and we talk. If the team has an issue they talk it out with the captains and seniors. If we have to we just end practice early.

Most googled cheer info: Trending stunts ideas. New stunts.
