As a new coach, it is important to not get overwhelmed and thinking you have to do everything you see on the internet or from other teams. Just start at the beginning and where you are comfortable, especially with stunts.
Here is a tip, remember it is better to have a simple CLEAN routine that one that is sloppy and has skills your cheerleaders are not ready for.
Ok to get you started, just follow the check list below. Once you have ALL of the items done below, then it will be time to add more skills and activities to your season. Remember, this list is designed to:

- Practice and Game Schedule
- Contact Information – a phone number, group chat
information or Facebook group, etc. - What to wear to practice
- Location of your practice in normal weather as well as
what happens if it rains.
Uniforms: Make sure you had out information about your uniforms: how to order them, sneakers, socks, bows, cold weather uniform information, etc.
Rosters: You will need to make your team rosters that includes the dates for your practices and games.

Expert Tip 2: To make sure you do not get overwhelmed, just focus on the skills list
below as it is designed to fill up your season!
Cheerleading Motions: You should have a variety of basic cheerleading motions to start with.
Cheerleading Cheers and Chants: For your season, you should have at least 20 cheers and chants as follows: 10 that are general spirit; and 10 that are sport specific like football or basketball. With these last 10, you should have 5 that are for offence and 5 that are for defense.
Dance Routines: You should have the following BASIC dance routines for
your team:
- 2 General / Fun dance routines that you can use for half time routines as well as something special for homecoming.
- 1 Fight Song routine that you can use on the sideline.
Expert Tip: Have a portable CD player or speaker connected to your phone, where you can play the music for your cheerleaders and the fans can hear it. During half time, you can ask the people in the announcer’s booth to play your music over the field speakers.
3 Basic Stunts: As a new coach, cheerleading stunts are always the most intimidating as you want to make sure your athletes are ALWAYS safe! To begin, we recommend 2 basic stunts and 1 intermediate stunt and just do variations of them as they will look GREAT! Remember: DO NOT progress to the intermediate stunt until you master your beginning stunts!
Cheerleading Jumps: To get started, you should focus on 2 basic cheerleading jumps as well as the toe touch jump.
Formations: Having several formations, at least 5, will make even the simplest routines look AMAZING!
