How to Help Your New Cheerleaders

At the beginning of your season, it is always a great idea to help your new cheerleaders get acclimated to your team.  The sooner they feel welcome and that they are a full member of the team, the sooner you will reach your team goals.  We have several proven ideas to help you with your new cheerleaders, here are a few start with:

1. Create a Mentor Program:

A Mentor Program is a great way to not only help your new cheerleaders feel welcome and to get to know all of the members of your team but to also improve their skills.  A great way to use the Mentor Program is to set up an experienced cheerleader with a new member and change the pairs frequently, i.e. every 2 weeks.

One goal for the mentor program is to improve your cheerleader’s skills, so pair up an experienced flyer with a new flyer so she can learn quickly.  Then the next mentor might be a tumbling partner.  Continue to change partners until every experienced cheerleader has been paired with a new cheerleader.

2.  Team Building Activities

With ALL teams, you should do at least 1 team building activity each week to create new relationships and build existing ones.  For some ideas, click on TEAM BUILDING IDEAS now 🙂
